Meet Some of My Friends Part 2

As I teased in my previous blog post, I would like to introduce three more of my amazing classmates and newsroom peers.

So, what am I waiting for? Let's dive in!

The first up is the amazing, incredibly talented and one of the sweetest people I know, Clarisa Melendez.

I have had the opportunity to work alongside and personally know Clarisa for the past four years. During her four years at UF, Clarisa has worked for WUFT TV and FM covering stories for NPR on 89.1 FM and for WUFT First at Five. She's covered stories revolving around Hurricane Michael and the support relief after the storm as well as the penalties for bee colony thefts. She is one amazing person and reporter and I have loved seeing her grow to where she is today!

Next up is the fabulous Gabriella Garza.

I had the opportunity to work with Gabriella during our radio course at UF and she is one person I know I can count on to be a source of support and encouragement. During her time at UF, she has done a lot of work for radio and TV in the newsroom as well as serve as an active member of a Multicultural Greek Council sorority. As her positive attitude and website will tell you, she will "conquer the world one day at a time."

Last but certainly not least, is Kate Venezio.

You can catch Kate running up and down the Steve Spurrier Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium snapping pictures and capturing classic and once-in-a-lifetime moments for fans and football players this football season. She has been a beat reporter for ESPN Gainesville and WRUF as well as serve as a sports anchor for WUFT First at Five. She has such an amazing drive both in and out of the newsroom and is someone I can definitely count on for a laugh or smile.

Let Me Introduce Myself...

I'm going to take a second and break from our tradition programming (aka blog posts) to take a step back and properly introduce myself...  For those that are just now tagging along to read my blog posts, I would like to say hi! I know I did a brief introduction a few months ago but I would like to give a more in-depth bio about myself that I never got the chance to do.  (Don't worry, I'm wearing shorts :) ) My name is Alexis Pastore. I am a 21-year-old fourth-year telecommunication major with a specialization in news and a concentration in sports management at the University of Florida. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and grew up with a passion for sports, sharing stories and helping those around me.  I first found my love for broadcast journalism and news when I joined my high school's TV production program. There, I learned how to film, edit and write for newscasts, feature stories, public service announcements and music videos.  Then...

How to Balance Getting Work Done But Also Doing Absolutely Nothing

I know I have talked about this before a while back on my blog , however, recently I have felt the urge to do LITERALLY NOTHING. I don’t know if it’s because I’m starting the whole “senioritis” phase in school (*cough cough 197 days left until I graduate*) or if it’s because I have been running around campus all week trying to finish my investigative project, do interviews, teach my class and doing homework. Let’s be real, it’s probably just a combination of all of the above. However, what do you do when you have so much left to complete but have NO desire to do anything? Right now I’m stuck in this dilemma. I have meetings tomorrow on campus, I have a LARGE paper due tomorrow for an online class but all I want to do is just hang out on the couch, watch TV and be lazy. I have found a great article from Psychology Today about how to overcome your lack of desire and tips on how to change your frame of mind in these situations. In the article, Heidi Grant Halvorson explains how oft...

The Tipping Point Review

A couple months ago I read a great book called Don't Make Me Think by Steve Krug and have recently found another great read. This time the book was called The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference and is by Malcolm Gladwell. Here's a quick summary of the book: Gladwell touched on how different ideas, concepts or social trends can spread extremely fast, gain popularity overnight and make incredible impacts on the world. He also touches on how smaller ideas or concepts can snowball into something bigger, causing new major impacts on how a person functions throughout their day-to-day life personally, socially, mentally, physically and professionally. To start off, I would just like to talk about two words that can be found throughout and on the book quite frequently... "tipping point." After reading Gladwell's book and taking away the many concepts he discussed, one thing that always stuck out to me in reference to a tipping point would be how...
